60 Years

60 Years
Graphite on paper
17.25" x 20"

This is a commission I recently completed for this couple's 60th (!) wedding anniversary. They have such beautiful faces and were a pleasure to draw. What an accomplishment 60 years together is when you stop and think about it. Congratulations to both of them.

I love drawing on the paper I used for this piece. It is my absolute favorite. Cartiera Magnani has been making paper since 1404 and it is said that Napoleon used this paper to print his wedding invitations. I thought this paper was fitting for this piece.

Benicia Railroad Depot

Benicia Railroad Depot
Oil on panel
6" x 6"

This old railroad depot sits at the western end of the Pony Express.  From there, bags of letters were ferried across San Pablo Bay and San Francisco Bay to San Francisco.  I painted this view looking south, and you can barely see the Carquinez Strait running behind the building on the far left.  Here you can see a photo of the building looking north.
